No Go Zones

I was looking at the map today, thinking of all the places I want to go.
Which is almost everywhere.
But not quite.
India, Colombia, Mongolia, and most countries in Africa are not really high on my list, if they are there at all.
That is not to say that if someone planned a trip for me and I knew I would be safe, that I would refuse. I don't think its in me to refuse going anywhere. I'm just saying that its possible that I'm easily freaked out, and these places have a very weak draw for me.
However, this list used to be a lot longer. Departures has certainly made me look at the world differently, and changed my preconceived ideas about places like Brazil, Ethiopia, and Cuba, but my adventurous spirit can only soar so far....

What is one country that you would NOT visit?

I have absolutely no desire to ever visit India. China, Africa and the Middle East are also on my no-go list.

Antarctica.
I'd say China, because of the horror that China is right now, but for some reason that makes me want to go there even more.

Sonya- China was on my No Go list until I watched a documentary on it, and it looked SO beautiful! It still kind of freaks me out, but I think I would be ok as a tourist!
Danica- watch the Departures episode on Antartica! It will change your mind....maybe :)

Pakistan. Never. Even if you paid me to go there. And I think I need to add Afghanistan as well.

I am surprised by people saying they wouldn't ever want to go to China. I love China, and can't wait to go back again. In fact, I would like to live there for a few months just to get a better feel for the country.

That's it, as a visible minority I am judging everyone by their comments... just joking (although this topic is just on the verge of becoming prejudiced). I would say as far as physical health and danger go, I am not so sure that parts of South Africa would be be suited for me. Also, call me crazy, but I don't really have a huge yearning to visit Mexico.

Well, I'd have to say North Korea, although it is a physically beautiful country. It's just that I have no trust in their government. I watched Departures when they went to N. Korea and it was plain eerie that in all of their sightseeing, there were hardly any other people around. Everything is so controlled by the government. I feel for the people living there with so little freedom.

@kristieinbc- I think China just springs "communism" to mind, and all the dark history surrounding that. Its pretty safe for tourists now though, right?

@Nato- haroo! Thanks for delurking! And judging me ;)
Mexico is an interesting choice. Does it just seem like a boring place to go?

@my mother- Ya, I totally agree. Haven't seen the Dep. episode yet, but I just would feel on edge the whole time.
